L.D.A.C.

The Legislative District Activists Committee (L.D.A.C.) is a committee comprised of union members who reside and vote in a State Representative or State Senate district. The goal of the L.D.A.C. is to develop a core of union activists in each legislative district who are committed to work together in a coordinated effort to insure that the legislative, political, and social agenda of the Rhode Island labor movement can, and will, be accomplished.
In each legislative district, an AFL-CIO union member will serve as a legislative district chairperson to coordinate the activities of the Legislative District Activists Committee. The chairperson in conjunction
with his/her committee will focus their attention in three key areas:
A) LOBBYING:
1. to heighten the legislator's awareness of both the number of union members in the district
and their level of activity,
2. to inform the legislator of the AFL-CIO position on legislative issues important to working
families,
3. to meet and discuss with the legislator on a regular basis the positions and actions he/she
is considering, and
4. to coordinate phone and mail communication to the legislator from union members in that
district.
B) POLITICAL ACTION:
1. to participate in the interview process for General Assembly candidates for that district and
to make recommendations to the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, and
2. to help elect or defeat a General Assembly candidate through activities such as:
door to door leafleting, conducting phone banks to call members in the district, finding
locations for signs, and participating in voter registration efforts.
C) COORDINATE SUPPORT ACTIVITIES:
1. to attend town/city council meetings in support of local union issues,
2. to encourage involvement from union members for activities such as strike support
rallies, and to support other activities to demonstrate labor solidarity.
